Community learning calls

Our bi-monthly Learning Calls serve as a dynamic space for members to share emerging work, bridge disciplinary gaps, and build a “living directory” of expertise. Whether you’re looking to showcase a new project or find synergies with peers in niche fields, these calls are designed to turn individual insights into collective intelligence.

Why join? Our primary goal is to move beyond polished final results and embrace the process of discovery.

• Foster early-stage feedback: We cultivate a safe environment for raw ideas, helping you refine your work long before it reaches a final draft.
• Discover synergies: Identify overlaps in research and projects across the community that you might not have known existed.
• Cross-disciplinary mapping: Break out of silos and see how your niche fits into the broader ecosystem.
• Showcase interesting research: We give a stage to the “hidden gems” of the community, ensuring diverse voices are heard.
• A living directory: By participating, you help us map out who is active in what topic, making it easier for everyone to find the right person for the right conversation.

The format We keep our sessions structured yet conversational. Each one-hour call will start with an input presentation by the presenter, followed by a discussion guided by the moderator and an open Q&A session.

Some ground rules To maintain the integrity of our discussions and protect the “early-stage” culture, we ask all participants to respect the following:

• Live experience only: These calls are not recorded. We want people to feel comfortable sharing half-baked ideas without fear of them living forever on the internet. (In rare cases, a presenter may choose to record their own 15-minute input, but the discussion remains private.)
• Humans only: These calls are open to anyone who wants to join—provided they are human. No AI meeting bots/notetakers allowed. We value your presence, not your transcript.

Deep-dive debates

The Deep-Dive Debates are our bi-monthly high-intensity sessions designed to foster engaging discussions on the most pressing topics of our field. These are not passive webinars; they are collaborative “think tank” spaces where the European community gathers to pinpoint where current laws (like the AI Act or DMA) lack technical grounding—and where emerging tech lacks legal guardrails.

Why join? Come join our deep-dive debates if you want to debate with us and discuss unsolved problems. Within these debates, we all come prepared having done the mandatory pre-reads. We discuss possible frictions within CS&Law and new issues that emerge.

The format To keep the focus on high-level discourse, we’ve stripped away the fluff:

• Pre-read: A mandatory, maximum 2-page briefing sent to all participants in advance.
• Provocation (5–10 min): The session lead provides brief opening thoughts and poses 3–5 “provoking questions” to kick off the debate.
• Open debate: A structured, moderated discussion governed by our Rules of Engagement.

Rules of engagement To maintain a “frontier” environment that is both rigorous and respectful, all participants agree to the following:

• Respect the disciplinary gap. If you use jargon—like “proportionality” in law or “differential privacy” in CS—be prepared to define the core concept for the other side.
• While disagreement is encouraged the sessions are still very much constructive and we aim to try to understand each other.
• To keep the bar high, organizers reserve the right to refine or decline topics that lack sufficient interdisciplinary friction.
